Back in 2013 when I felt compelled to pursue creative writing (for reals) I realized I’d never be a competent writer if I don’t read. But up until then, about a few books a year (if any, some years) was all I read. To catch up, I felt like I had to read at least a book per week. In 2015 I proved to myself I can keep a one-book-a-week pace. The next year I finished multiple books over 500 pages, like Anna Karenina (“long-reads” I call them). And although I didn’t reach my 100 books in 2018 goal, I continued to finish a book a week.
